Art Prom 2006

What a night. Bill and I went to this wild party with a fire eater, a flame throwing girl, and all these crazy costumed art people. Bill went as this crazy hermit guy with a bag of body parts and I went in my indian suit with big indian jewelry. I wore my scarf across my face to hide my beard. Yes, I was the bearded lady.

Towards the end of the evening, costume awards were given and Bill and I were crowned King and Queen of the ARt Prom. It was bizarre. How in the hell did this happen? WHat a blast!

Texas National 2006

Well, the Texas National Show was captivating. I wonder if the juror, Paul Brach was taking mind altering medication when he chose that body of work. Congratulations to Chris for his Tribal Lantern. It was one of the 8 items out of 79 that I actually liked. I guess the work looks a lot better as a slide than in real life so I will give the 80ish juror a little credit.

Back Pain, Wood firing, Art shows

What a crazy week. The ceramics department did this wood fire with Liz Loure, visiting artist. Remeber the guys shoveling coal into the train engine, that was us, we were throwing thin sticks into a 2000 degree inferno for 24 hours straight. It was great. The air coming out of the kiln chimney was so hot that the oxygen was just combusting and causing flames to shoot out the top.

In the midst of all the excitement my back has been killing me. It started about 2 1/2 weeks ago and to day I could barely move. Bill took me to the doctor and I was given samples of muscle relaxers and anti-inflamatories. I am finally able to walk mostly upright now.

I have to finish my pewter project, fire a kiln, make 25 clay solders, and come up with a brilliant pendant for SNAG by Monday. Life as usual, I love this. I am so much happier when my life is going a million miles an hour and I am productive. Once this back pain is under control, I will really be getting after it.

I also entered the Just in Case show yesterday - S&M, the cymbalta ring, and the sweetgum ring. My resume will show lots of initiative this semester.
